As part of Chula Vista’s efforts to reduce polluting greenhouse gas emissions, save electricity and create local jobs, IBEW Local 569 members and signatory contractor Southern Contracting are upgrading thousands of residential street lights in Chula Vista to new energy-saving LED units. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the project will reduce electricity costs by nearly 50 percent and is being funded by millions from the California Energy Commission and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
This project is yet another example of how cities like Chula Vista who are taking action to address climate change are creating win-wins for the local workforce, consumer pocketbooks and the environment.
