Local Students’ Sustainable Skills to be Showcased at San Diego School Board Meeting

Students from the Renewable Energy Leadership Institute (RELI) demonstrate their skills to the San Diego Unified School District Board with an electric go-cart and solar charging station

May 24, 2010- Local high school students will unveil an electric go-cart and solar charging station at the San Diego Unified School District Board meeting to showcase skills learned at the Renewable Energy Leadership Institute (RELI).  This pilot program was conceived under the leadership of School Board Member Sheila Jackson to generate excitement among high school students about career opportunities in the renewable energy industry.

 

RELI is a partnership between the San Diego Unified School District and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 569 with support from Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 206. RELI is a two-year Multiple Pathway program organized around renewable energy and sustainable technologies that uses project-based learning, provides real-world learning opportunities in the energy industry, increases student support services, and prepares students for college, apprenticeship and civic engagement.
