IBEW Local 569, San Diego NECA, San Diego Electrical Training Center, and elected officials highlight the importance of apprenticeships for our workforce and economy
San Diego – With the San Diego and national economies growing by leaps and bounds, where will the trained workforce to meet those demands come from? The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 569 and its partners, the National Electrical Contractors Association – San Diego and the San Diego Electrical Training Center, are stepping forward to fulfill the employment demands of the 21st century. For the U.S. Department of Labor’s National Apprenticeship Week, beginning Nov. 12, the partners will educate leaders in business, organized labor, education, and the community on the importance of apprenticeships to the workforce and economy.
Local San Diego events will include a Nov. 14 Roundtable discussion among local elected officials, labor and business leaders, on the importance of apprenticeships for veterans, career-seeking young people, and the economy.
Additionally, IBEW 569, NECA San Diego and the San Diego Electrical Training Center are kicking off their new program of media-friendly “Apprenticeships for the Day” events in which local high school and elementary school students will get hands-on learning about the many options available to them in the electrical industry. The Apprenticeship of the Day events at the San Diego Electrical Training Center begin a new, monthly training program for young people and others interested in careers in electrical and low-voltage line work.
