We mourn the passing of Retiree David Allen Biddlecome, a Journeyman Inside Wireman and former contractor, who was 63 years old, and had been a Local 569 member for over 44 years.
A native San Diegan (born in Coronado), Brother Biddlecome was barely 19 years old, when he began working in Shop Manufacturing, at Local 569’s Universal Fabrication, in late 1974. By late 1976, Universal Fab had become Universal Electric, and David started his wireman’s apprenticeship there. As an apprentice wireman, David would go on to work for Karvon, Foshay Electric, Associated Electric, Bechtel, and Goodwin Electric. In those years, it was common for apprentices to spend a year or more with one shop. As a Journeyman (in the early 80s), David worked for Fuller Electric, and then worked for Bechtel Unit 1 for over 3½ years. Then he was dispatched to Snyder Electric for almost 2 years. In late 1988, David was dispatched back to Fuller, as Fuller was about to take over a major Snyder job. By 1996, David and Local 569’s Brother Michael Pat Murphy began Murphy Electric. They kept the shop running for close to 10 years. Then David bought Michael’s stake, and DB Electric was born in 2006. Last year, David’s son, Local 569 Journeyman Inside Wireman Eric, “took over the reins”, and the Biddlecome tradition continues. David will always be remembered for his smiling presence and upbeat attitude, whenever he came into our office, or called us with questions.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., June 8th, beginning at Noon, at his home, 2209 – 32nd Street, San Diego, 92104. The family would like to hear our Brothers’ and Sisters’ stories of working with, and knowing David.
