Today, the electrical workers union of San Diego & Imperial Counties applauded California Gov. Jerry Brown’s signing of a bill that puts the Golden State on track towards 100 percent clean energy by 2045.
IBEW Local 569, representing 3,400 electrical workers in San Diego and Imperial counties, has played an integral part in building the region’s clean energy economy. IBEW members have built more than 1,600 megawatts of clean solar and wind in San Diego and Imperial counties since passage of California’s original renewable portfolio standard was established in 2002.
“We are committed to building a clean energy economy that benefits working people and their families,” said Nick Segura, IBEW Local 569 business manager. “We’ve seen the benefits from affordable clean energy, both for our communities and with the career training and upward mobility the expanding renewable sector is providing our members. We’ve worked hard with our partners in the Legislature and partners in environmental conservation, and our economy has reaped the rewards. Today’s commitment will ensure that our investment in good jobs and healthy communities continues.”
