We mourn the loss of Journeyman Sound Technician Michael T. O’Brien, who was 45 years old, and had been a member for over 4 years. Michael (aka Mikey) began his career as a Sound apprentice in May 2020, with his first dispatch to Audio Associates. Throughout his apprenticeship, he would gain valuable knowledge and experience at his ensuing contractors; National Electric Works (NEW), and Precision Electric. During his apprenticeship (when class scheduling permitted), he could be seen at many General Membership meetings. He understood the value of attending these meetings, to learn first-hand about current and upcoming projects that would actively involve our Union members, including his Sound Tech. Brothers and Sisters.
From Gretchen Newsom: In remembrance of Michael – he was a shining beacon of energy at many IBEW 569 community and campaign events. He frequently volunteered, illuminating our phone banks with his radiant smile and positive spirit. His courteous and persuasive nature sparked enthusiasm in others, inspiring them to cast their votes.
When Michael graduated from the apprenticeship program, last year, not only was he the Outstanding Sound Apprentice, but he also earned the title of Overall Outstanding Apprentice. A beautiful beacon of light gone too soon . . .
