We mourn the loss of Retired Journeyman Inside Wireman William C. Macias, who was 91 years old, and had been a Local 569 member for over 64 years.
A few years after graduating from San Diego High School, Brother Macias enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he’d serve for 2 years. The following year, William found his way to Convair, where he worked as an aircraft assembler for several months. He would become adept at working across a range of disciplines, from industrial electrician to sound technician to journeyman inside wireman.
After becoming a Local 569 member, in 1960, William was first dispatched as an Industrial Electrician to Elser Elevator, and then to Universal Fabrication. As he became more proficient, he was dispatched as a Journeyman Inside Wireman to JW Electric, Beach Electric, Jackson Electric Associated, and Whitaker. By 1970, California Electric Works (CALEWO) needed a journeyman sound tech, and Brother Macias filled the bill. During his long career, William would be dispatched to many contractors, including Bell Electric, Chula Vista (4 dispatches), Atlantic, Regal, DNB Designs, Hardelco, Baker, Econ, Gould, Amber Electric, Bechtel Units 2 & 3 (2 dispatches), Catalytic, Scotty Electric, and MMR. He was dispatched to Dawn Electric in mid-1989, and stayed for almost 3 years. Brother Macias fully retired in 1995.
Rest In Power, Brother William.
