We mourn the passing of Retired Journeyman Inside Wireman Darwin Meester, who was 87 years old, and had been a member of Local 569 and the IBEW for 50 years.
As a young man, Brother Meester served his country in the U.S. Navy, and after 4 years, was discharged as an RM3. It wasn’t until September 1969, at the age of 37, that he would join IBEW Local 441 (Santa Ana, CA). By 1976, he decided to see what Local 569 had to offer, and he was dispatched to Southern Contracting. After having worked for the same shop for five years, Brother Meester decided to approach Local 569’s Executive Board, and requested to transfer his “ticket”. In January 1981, our Executive Board Moved, Seconded, and Carried to allow Brother Meester’s request to go before the General Membership for approval, and by February 1981, Local 569’s members voted to allow Brother Meester’s transfer Local 569.
Darwin worked another ten years, and then decided take an early retirement. He was living in Arizona, at the time of his passing.
