We mourn the passing of Retired Journeyman Inside Wireman William F. Davis, who was 97 years old, and had been a member of the IBEW for over 75½ years.
Brother Davis was another member of the “greatest generation”, for he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 – 1946. He spent the next 4 years deciding on his life plan, and then began working at Shelburn Refrigeration, in El Centro, in 1950. He stayed with them for the next 6 years. By 1956, William had gone to Fontana, California, and also changed his focus to the electrical field. He began working at Kaiser Electric, and by 1957, he not only arrived in San Diego, but also began working at Davies Electric. William never looked back, and by late 1959, he was allowed to transfer his membership to Local 569. For the next 24 years, Brother Davis would work for such companies as Federal, Atlas, J. Frank Electric, Amber, Universal Electric, Arrow, Johnson Controls, (then Union) Bergelectric, Bob Van Der Linden, Southern Contracting, Bechtel, Dawn, and Amelco. He retired in 1983.
William was kind and always a gentleman. He will be missed. His son, Duane Davis, is also a Local 569 retired Journeyman Inside Wireman.
Services for Brother Davis will be held at the Miramar National Cemetery, 5797 Nobel Drive, San Diego, 92122, at 9:30 am, on Mon., April 30th.
As with all military services, please arrive 15 minutes ahead of the time of service.
