Yesterday, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously 5-0 to approve moving the Westside Canal Battery Energy Storage Project forward.
The Westside Canal project is one of the largest battery storage projects proposed for Imperial County at 2,000 MW and it will be built in phases which offers the potential for sustained employment in the Valley as each phase is completed and the next goes into construction.
We have a signed Project Labor Agreement for this project to employ IBEW 569 members, and work is slated to start in Mid-2022.
Here at 569, we have a long history of supporting sensible and environmentally sound renewable energy development in the Imperial County. Battery storage is the critical next step in moving our state away from fossil fuels and toward putting solar, wind, and geothermal energy onto the grid.
