We mourn the passing of retired Brother Richard Denton, who passed on Feb. 28, 2022. He was 84 years old and had been a Local 569 member for 60 years.
He joined the Navy shortly before he turned 18 and served 3 years. During the next 4 years, Richard went from working for IBM (repairing data processing machines) to working for General Dynamics – Astro (testing Cold War era missile auto-pilot systems). His life took a pivot when he was dispatched to his first job as an Apprentice Inside Wireman, in Sept. 1962, and Capital Electric was the beneficiary. Richard stayed with Capital until he was transferred to Bell Electric, in 1965. After Bell, he was transferred to Chula Vista Electric, and then returned to Capital to complete his apprenticeship. Richard would go on to work at Streech Electric, Amber, Foshay Electric and Serra. Brother Denton retired in September 1999.
** Services will be held on Friday, March 18th, at 11 am, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 5150 Wilson Street, La Mesa, CA 91942. The church is located off Grossmont Blvd and Jackson Dr. Wilson St. is located across from the Penske Car Dealership (old Drew Ford) and Discount Tire is on the corner of Grossmont Blvd. and Wilson. There is street parking. The driveway is on the north side of the sanctuary which leads to more parking.
